Sustainability Overview
As a leader in cost-conscious, sustainable construction, Shangri-La Construction provides a full spectrum of sustainability and LEED services including preliminary assessment of goals; facilitation of eco-charettes; communication with all project stakeholders regarding the process; maintenance of LEED scorecards; research of innovative green products, vendors, and technologies; and management of the entire LEED registration, documentation, submittal, and certification process. There is a common misconception that sustainability and LEED projects cost more than traditional construction, however, Shangri-La delivers such projects at costs comparable to traditional construction. Unlike most contractors and related service-providers, Shangri-La provides all of the aforementioned sustainability and LEED support free of charge to our clients as part of Shangri-La´s standard scope of services. Moreover, we conduct extensive research to capture all potential rebates and financial incentives, and we support our clients through the respective application processes from inception through receipt of payment.
Shangri-La not only uses LEED to verify or certify sustainable buildings; additionally, Shangri-La is well versed in the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) program that verifies schools as being high performers based on the CHPS criteria. Shangri-La also works with the Estidama system in the UAE. Since LEED is the most internationally recognized green building rating system in the World and has various rating systems that can accommodate the majority of building categories; Shangri-La relies on LEED a great deal to verify and certify our projects.
Shangri-La´s management and project teams from top to bottom are "accredited professionals" (APs) as certified by the USGBC. Shangri-La offers a dedicated AP, Jennifer Berthelot-Jelovic, LEED AP BD+C, as its Director of Sustainability.
Jennifer is our in-house sustainability and LEED specialist with extensive experience with the USGBC´s LEED rating systems. Jennifer has worked on projects utilizing various rating classifications including New Construction, Core and Shell, Commercial Interiors, LEED for Schools and LEED EBOM. Jennifer was instrumental in securing the world´s first LEED Platinum certification for New Construction for an aviation facility for Hangar 25 in Burbank, California. Jennifer coordinated Nevada´s first LEED Gold office retrofit at 302 E. Carson in Las Vegas. Shangri-La also secured the first LEED Platinum Commercial Interiors office space in the Tri-City (Glendale/Pasadena/Burbank) area for Citadel Environmental Services´ corporate offices.
